Welcome to 2011! We went for a drive down the great ocean road on Sunday to view the famous 12 apostles. It's surreal on that beach, I couldn't stop taking photos and running around excited like a 5 year old.

'You & I' - Personal Game Project

'You & I' is a short game I designed and built with a small but amazing team with a 3 week deadline. I'm really proud of their efforts as this has been one of the most tiring yet rewarding things I've ever developed. The effort that Michael White (Programming), Akiko Kanamori (UI), Peter Wayne (Audio) and Ian Bright (Animation) put into an idea that I could hardly explain was phenomenal.

Pitch Project

This environment was made for an old pitch that fell through. Amongst the most enjoyable projects I've worked on, really open and creative design and art process. I was responsible for the buildings, their features and a small amount of street props.

This weapon was built for a pitch but was never needed so the model was left unfinished until a few weeks ago. There's too much wear and tear, I was planning on adding it, then pulling it back, but time is against me at the moment.

I've been working on this scene based on Angkor ruins. Uncharted 2 was a massive inspiration and it just so happened that the UC2 art book came out before I started.....
There's still work to do, but for now I've had enough. I'll come back to this after exploring something different for a while. Here's a crop:

Merchandise Photography

Chose to do something a little different the past couple of weeks and helped with some merchandise photography for a sports club website. This is just a very very small portion of the items I photographed, but it was a great experience and I hope to explore this area further in the future.

Colour Troubles

ProPhotoRGB sRGB

I've worked out that photos I printed months back turned out really green because the colour profile being assigned to my photos was ProPhoto rather than the more standard sRGB or even aRGB. The things you learn aye!

New photo time for the competition theme 'simple'! This consists of a rose, some red food die, some golden syrup, and paper towel. I have made another realisation on the journey from point and shoot to DSLR. It's easier to get good results, when you know what you want.

Image Editing

The slight change in lighting was done with the RAW file, and the blood was done using photoshop. The new photo now tells a gruesome story that the original never did. The use of a 'Digital Darkroom' has given me the ability to create a photo of the concept floating around in my head.

Just casually watching the Footy Show tonight and noticed that during a joke they decided to use one of my photos! They mentioned the poor attendance during the weekend game. He went on to say that "Only 3 Melbourne supporters turned up to the game to hang this sign":

Fire Starter

Here is an experiment I did in a dark room with a 5 second shutter speed and only a spark for light. Everyone knows the trick, It's just the first time I have had a chance to put it into practice. One of those fun things you can do easily with a DSLR.

To footy or not to footy...

The first time I used my new lens at the football I had used a shutter speed of around 250 with an ISO of 100-200, which resulted in slightly blurred images. This time however, I upped my ISO to 400, and raised the shutter speed to 500. The result as you can see is a nice and sharp image.

Easter:
For the football season I've purchased the Tamron 70 - 300mm lens and I the Pentax SMC FA 50mm F1.4 Prime lens for night shots as it's super fast and as crisp as a packet of crisps.

I Visited my family again this Easter in Tasmania and just about everywhere you look is a landscape photographers dream.
